Clerk’s Office Overview

The Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Courts is responsible for:

  • Real Estate Documents: Filing, recording, and indexing all real estate-related documents in Columbia County, including deeds, plats, and cancellations.
  • Family Law Cases: Filing and processing divorce cases, adoptions, name changes, child support, custody modifications, and contempt cases for violation of court orders.
  • Juvenile Cases: Filing and processing all juvenile cases.
  • Civil Cases: Filing and processing civil cases, including suits on account, condemnations, appeals from magistrate and probate courts, writs of possession, and insurance matters.
  • Judgments and Liens: Filing, recording, and indexing all judgments, tax liens, and fi fas (legal documents that allow creditors to seize property to settle debts).
  • Criminal Cases: Filing and processing warrants, indictments, accusations, and sentences for felony and misdemeanor cases.
  • Sentencing Packages: Processing sentencing packages for the Department of Corrections to transfer prisoners into the state system and handling applications for sentence reviews.
  • UCC Liens: Filing and processing all Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) liens on personal property for public notice.
  • Appeals: Preparing records for all appeal cases in the Civil, Domestic, and Criminal Divisions for the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
